Living in a demimonde — a half world between reality and the supernatural — where personal demons from the past can be stronger than vampires, evil spirits and immortal beasts.

Some of literature's most terrifying figures, including Dr. Frankenstein and his Creature, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of the city among many others.

During this era of tremendous technological and scientific experimentation, characters are driven by fatal curiosity.

Some are consumed by world exploration, others by testing the boundaries of life.

Their dark endeavours shed terrifying light on the unknown.

In a time rife with sin and psychological exploration, love and passion are tainted by deeper, darker mysteries.

Suffering from a need for love, characters give into erotic temptation, resulting in horrific, otherworldly consequences.

Yet, despite individual alienation, characters will form unlikely alliances to hunt down greater evil.

Those within the Demimonde will weave together stories, both familiar and new, into a complex psychological thriller.

THIS IS WHERE OUR STORY BEGINS

Bastions,  “heroes” who feel they can stop what goes bump in the night during this most unique time in the World.

In particular, One such society has been secretly working behind the scenes for the generations, serving the Government and leaders of Britain from the late 1600’s.

They are known as The Walpurgis Society.

London is a crucible for the post-Industrial Revolution society, a combination of the latest technologies and personal freedoms combined with centuries-old prejudice and a rigid class structure. The Industrial Revolution brought with it new opportunities, and with them a chance for both men and nations to break new ground in all areas: the arts, science and society.  For the first time the tools were available to humankind to understand where they had come from and reach out to build a new future.

But despite – or because of - the gleaming new future within our grasp, there was great suffering and turmoil. There were enormous divides between rich and poor, and revolutions in America and France brought fresh hope that major changes could be made. New weapons helped give life to the idea that if these changes were not freely given, they could be forcibly taken.

If there is no common enemy living among human society, would The Walpurgists have continued to exist for so many centuries as a force for maintaining the status quo, striking down rebellion and any threat to the ruling classes’ hold on the money and power?

Surely the new police force and the army would be sufficient if this was the only threat?

What is certain is that the end of the 19th century was a time of great turmoil and there were a suspicious number of violent protests, horrible murders and disasters within the city of London – too many to just be a coincidence.
